ABOUT Walter “Rootsie” Hopmans is a passionate singer-songwriter from Amsterdam with a deep-rooted love for music and storytelling. For decades, he has performed on international stages, both as the frontman of his Finnish Americana band—Walter Rootsie and His Blue Connection—and in intimate solo settings. He also frequently performs as a duo with his regular Finnish musical partner, Pasi Saharinen, and engages in a variety of other musical collaborations.
His musical journey began early, playing in various blues and rock bands. A significant chapter was his time as frontman for the legendary Amsterdam rock group Geronimo, where he played alongside musicians such as drummer Herman van Boeyen and guitarist Pablo Minnoli. Over the years, Walter has performed with countless bands and artists across the Netherlands, Spain, and—most notably—Finland, lending his music a distinctly international character.
In 2005, he founded his own Americana/roots band in Finland. With Walter Rootsie and His Blue Connection, he has released four successful albums and established a strong live reputation within the European roots and Americana scene. His acclaimed new album, *People Talk*, was recently released and has garnered glowing reviews in the press both at home and abroad.
Walter writes and performs exclusively original material, boasting a broad repertoire defined by a recognizable, authentic sound. His music moves effortlessly between country, folk, blues, rock, and classic singer-songwriter traditions. He is celebrated for his powerful live performances, narrative lyrics, and genuine musicality.
During his shows, Walter connects with the audience, evoking both laughter and tears. He intersperses his songs with personal stories and anecdotes, making every concert feel like an intimate encounter. It is storytelling music straight from the heart—with something for everyone.
